GenesisIV - Graphics cards

GenesisIV uses complex shader programs which tend to push the requirements of shader technology considerably more than most games. Generally we recommend nVidia and 3DLabs cards as giving the best and most reliable results. ATi support for OpenGL Shaders has been less reliable than these and we strongly recommend that for these you ensure that the latest drivers are installed.

The list below shows cards GenesisIV has been tested onby ourselves or where reliable information has been reported back to us. Please note that in all cases the latest drivers are assumed as GenesisIV makes extensive use of new OpenGL features. If your PC has a reasonably recent graphics card but fails to run by far the most common reason for this is out-of-date drivers.

Radeon 6xxx and 7xxx, 92x0 - 97x0	Some problems reported	Program runs, but Photorealistic renderer of often produces artifacts on lower specified cards.
Radeon 9800, X-7x0, X-8x0	Some problems reported	Generally run ok, but reports of crashes or rendering artifacts more common for this group of cards than other manufacturers.

nVidia
GeForce2 GeForce4	Yes	Program runs, but photorealistic renderer results poor.
FX5200	Yes	Some artifacts seen at high fractal level in photorealistic renderer.
FX5600 - FX5900 GeForce 6x000 GeForce 7x000	Yes	FX models after 5600, and GeForce 6x000, 7x000 render without issue. 6x000 and better in particular generally give excellent results.
GoForce FX models. (laptop graphics)	Some problems reported	Occassional errors reported on GoForce FX5600, but has been confirmed to run on GoForce FX5200. Possibe driver issues.

Note that a Yes indicates card tested directly by Geomantics with good result. Reported OK indicates reliable reports indicates card runs the software. Some problems reported indicates that GenesisIV will generally run, but there are likely to be driver issues and further reports are welcomed. A No indicates we have tested ourselves or that reliable reports indicate the application will not run on this hardware.
